Either/Or expanded edition coming out April, 2017

Talk about Elliott here, in the most broadest of terms. For any ES talk that doesn't fit anywhere else.

If any fans have specific questions (once they have heard and looked at the album) let me know. I hope everyone enjoys the remaster and understands and is okay with the bonus disc being quite short. Just a little dessert after a great meal, I guess. Many of the tracks you all mention in this thread couldn't be used without a lot of back and forth with Universal, so that's the reason they are not included. "Bottle Up" was recorded pre-Dreamworks contract so could be used; that has nothing to do with different lyrics or such. We thought it was a nice nod towards XO, and it was one of the oldest songs on XO as far as I can tell!

I'll try to remember to check in here. If I forget email me! http://www.larry-crane.com/contact/

There are a lot of recent interviews with me so I'll post links to them below. We also celebrated 20 years of Jackpot! Recording last month. I'm getting old.

Also I did a big article based on the liner notes for the reissue in my Tape Op Magazine. It will be out in a week or so.

Hi Larry,

Thank you for maintaining a presence on the forum, and for doing the promotional rounds.

I support any ES release put together with care, and I sincerely appreciate this one. However, I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish there was more, especially with the wealth of material seemingly available. Regardless, I voted with my wallet and hope it encourages someone down the line to put out more Elliott music. Also, absolutely love My New Freedom.

During your NPR interview, you said for the bonus dic, "one idea was trying to find the most songs that nobody had ever heard. There are some things in the vaults. I'm not saying that they're the best songs in the world, most of them don't hold a candle to Either/Or itself. [They] could be a nice thing for fans, but it was a little ragtag and sonically it was kind of all over the map. I don't think [they] really impressed anyone."

I understand you are an archivist and advisor, not the one spearheading projects, but do you see there being an avenue for "curiosities" in the future? Nobody wants to be accused of scrapping the bottom of the barrel, but I think there's a way to frame material like that to dispel the notion, and put it in the context of being a behind the scenes glimpse into an important artists body of work.

Jimi Hendrix's family keeps it separate by running an official bootleg label: http://daggerrecords.com

Anyway, appreciate the care you've shown this great record that we all love so much. Thanks for being so accessible, and have you found vocals for See You In Heaven Yet? I know there's a demo somewhere! ;)

Just got the LP in the mail. Remaster was great in removing some of the hiss artifact but as with any attempts at NR sometimes it leaves a bit of residue. Overall not bad and I appreciate all the things you do and have done for the fans.

I'm incredibly grateful for the new versions of "I figured you out," "bottle up and explode," "my new freedom," and a clearer version of that "new monkey" organ intro from the old school 97 "either or demos" 2 disc bootleg that used to be floating around. As these appeared to be new mixes by Larry and sounded quite good, especially the "new monkey" redux which sounded a bit different from the original bootleg as well as the picture of me outro which I presume was a single track pulled from the actual song, I would have been more interested in hearing Larry's remixes of the original album rather than just a remaster. I particularly have enjoyed hearing Larry bringing certain instruments out that were more buried in many of Elliott's original mixes, for example in "The Real Estate," "Cecilia/Amanda" "Angel in the Snow" to name a few.

Nevertheless, thanks for all your efforts and I would be remiss in not thanking Kevin for all his behind the scenes continuing efforts to get more of Elliott's music out there.

I would add, the album I'm more interested in seeing a remaster for is FABOTH. Whoever did the mastering on that album saddled the family Joanna and Rob with a bad reputation IMO because regardless of how good their mixes were the numetal modern rock mastering made the released version unlistenable. You can see how bad this is if you pull up the sound files in any audio editing program. I had to literally create my own version culled from unreleased bootlegs and custom mixes.

If there's one album I would welcome Larry remastering next it would be that one, even if the original remixes done by Rob and Joanna remain. Hope you consider it!

Hey, thank you, but I had nothing to do with this one. This was all Larry and KRS and I think they did a great job! XO

The mixes were done to 1/4" tape and those sound pretty great unmastered. It is a crazy sounding record overall though, and Elliott was running just about everything through his Fairchild compressor and hitting it too hard!

I don't remember that I used much hiss reduction software at all. New Monkey keys I found on a CD-R, weirdly enough! The Pictures organ is an isolated track from the song. It cracks me up that he would hide that in there, basically.

Remixing the album was not in the cards nor possible. I don't have multitracks for Punch & Judy, Speed Trials, or Cupid's Trick, and other songs like Angeles and Pictures of Me have elements flown in at mastering or in SPECTRAL. See the Tape Op article out soon for details.
