Splitzville - Tab

Splitzville - Tab

Postby Alex » Mon Oct 21, 2013 8:53 am

i've never found any tab of this song out there in the internet.
so here it is ..
I think he does'nt spent much time on writing that song.
Sounds like he just made up some chord-scheme, quickly wrote some lyrics and fixed the rest of the song while recording it.
This song sounds so un-elliott compared to the other songs .. it sounds just ruff.
It can be placed more into his early heatmiser-era - though it was recorded in sometime around 2000.
I think he wanted just to do a dirty rock song - without thinking to much about the music!

anyway - hope you like the tab:
(the solo chords-scheme is possible not right - but to give you a ruff idea i tried to write it down as close as i can)

Re: Splitzville - Tab

Awesome work, thanks for sharing! You're right - I think this is the first tab of this song to be put online.

At first listening I shared your opinion about the songwriting. I thought that it was just a sloppy exercise in pop-punk and I couldn't stand to listen to it. The distorted guitar and heavy bass drum are very un-elliott. The lyrics are bland and he sings them in a flat drawl. But, once you hit 3 minutes into the song, all that changes and we have a lush instrumental break that is anything but lazy and really makes you strive to understand what he's trying to do. There's harpsichord (I think? sounds more like a dulcimer), piano, electric and acoustic guitar weaving in and out with beautiful, melodic lines - he definitely spent a lot of time on getting this right in the studio.

To me the song is about the false euphoria of a breakup - it's manic and the lyrics wander all over the place for the first half of the song. I feel as though the narrator is lying to himself about how great it feels to be free, but in the second half of the song it's like these delusions are shattered and the song explores the emotions of nostalgia, loss and regret.

After many listens I have come to the conclusion that the first half of the song is carefully crafted to appear like it was hastily written and rough, to express those delirious thoughts and so that we have such a sharp contrast with the instrumental section.
